The short answer

Small repairs often land in the low hundreds. Hanging and finishing a standard room usually lands in the low thousands. Whole-house or large commercial jobs scale from there. Everything below explains why your job lands where it does.

A note on prices: material and labor costs move up and down, and no two jobs need the same work. Treat any numbers on this page as starting points, not quotes. Your written estimate after our free visit is the real number for your project.

What moves the price

Typical ranges homeowners see

Nationally, these are the shapes of the numbers — not quotes:

Your walls decide your number. Our cost calculator gives a rough starting point from your room dimensions.

How to read a drywall bid

A good bid names: the scope (what rooms, what work), the board type, the finish level, the texture, and whether materials, dust protection, and cleanup are included. A bid that just says "drywall: $X" is not a bid — it is a guess. Ask what finish level is included; two coats instead of three is the industry's favorite corner cut.

The cheapest bid warning

Drywall is labor-heavy, so cheap bids usually mean rushed mud work — and rushed mud work shows up the day the paint dries, when fixing it costs double. The most expensive drywall job is the one you pay for twice.

Questions homeowners ask us

What is the average cost to drywall a room?

Nationally, homeowners often see hang-and-finish work for a standard room in the low thousands — but size, ceiling height, and finish level move it.
A note on prices: material and labor costs move up and down, and no two jobs need the same work. Is it cheaper to repair or replace drywall?

Repair is almost always cheaper for localized damage. Replacement wins when damage is widespread — water damage across a whole ceiling, or failing plaster across whole walls.

Why do drywall bids vary so much?

Mostly finish level and scope honesty. A bid with two coats of mud vs. three, or that excludes texture matching, will look cheaper — and look worse. Compare scope line by line, not just totals.
