Basements punish regular drywall
Concrete sweats. Humidity runs higher below grade. A basement finished with standard drywall is a mold problem on a timer. We use moisture-resistant panels, keep board off the slab with the right gap detailing, and make sure the space can dry if it ever gets damp.
What a basement job includes
- Moisture-resistant board on walls — and we will tell you honestly if your basement needs waterproofing first. Drywall over an active water problem is malpractice.
- Ceiling strategy. Drywall ceilings look best, but drop ceilings give access to pipes and wires. We will lay out the tradeoff for your basement.
- Soffits and chases. Boxing in ductwork and plumbing cleanly — the detail that separates a pro basement from a DIY one.
- Egress and code notes. We are not code officials, but we will flag the obvious: bedrooms need egress windows, and we will not finish a space that cannot meet it.
The conversation before the quote
Before we price a basement, we ask about water history: any flooding, seepage, sump pump, dehumidifier? If the basement takes water, that gets solved first — by a waterproofing contractor, not by us. We would rather lose the job than finish walls that will fail.
