Deep in the county, full service
Ironsides is southwestern Charles County at its most rural — farms, woods, and homes set back from the road. The housing stock runs old: farmhouses with plaster, additions built over the years, outbuildings turned into living space. We drive out here regularly, and we bring everything the job needs — materials, dust control, and the patience older homes require.
Common Ironsides work
- Plaster repair — cracks, holes, and delamination in farmhouse walls, repaired properly.
- Additions — new drywall tied into old construction, texture matched.
- Conversions — garages and outbuildings finished to living-space standard.
- Ceiling repair — including old plaster ceilings and roof-leak stains.
- Whole-home refreshes — decades of wear buried under smooth, fresh walls.
Older homes get extra care
We check what is behind the problem before we quote — moisture, framing, old wiring paths. Opening a wall in an old farmhouse can reveal surprises, and we would rather find them on the estimate visit than mid-job.
Outbuilding conversions done right
Ironsides properties often include the outbuildings — detached garages, workshops, barns — and converting one to living space is a great project when it is done in the right order. The drywall is actually the last step, not the first. Before any board goes up, the building needs insulation, a moisture strategy, and confirmation that the structure is ready for finished walls. We will tell you honestly if it is not ready yet.
Once the building is ready, the drywall scope is straightforward: hang, tape, finish, texture — the same residential standard as the main house. The details that matter are the transitions: where the converted space meets the outdoors (proper sealing and trim), how the ceiling handles the roof structure, and matching the finish quality to the intended use. A guest suite gets Level 4 smooth; a workshop might stop at Level 2 where appearance does not matter and the money is better spent elsewhere.
We also flag the practical stuff: heating and cooling for the space (drywall hates freeze-thaw cycles in unconditioned buildings), and access for getting full sheets into the building. Rural conversions have logistics — we plan for them on the estimate visit so there are no surprises.
What happens on your free estimate
- We look. We walk the rooms, see the walls in person, and check behind the problem — moisture, framing, the real story.
- We measure. Square footage, ceiling height, how much is repair versus new.
- We talk materials. Standard, moisture-resistant, or mold-resistant board — specified per room, not per habit.
- You get a number. One written price for the whole job. Take your time deciding; the price is yours to keep.
The visit takes 20 to 30 minutes for most repairs, longer for large installations. And it is free — no obligation, no sales script.

Our dust-control promise in Ironsides homes
Drywall sanding makes dust — there is no version of the job where it does not. What differs is what happens to that dust. We seal every work area with plastic sheeting, run dust control while sanding, and clean up at the end of every day — not just at the end of the job. Floors get runners and drop cloths on every path we walk. When we leave, your home should feel like a home that had work done, not a construction site you happen to sleep in.
