Older homes, done right
Indian Head is one of the county's older towns — homes here have history, and many have plaster walls to prove it. Plaster cracks differently than drywall and repairs differently too. A crew that only knows modern drywall will often make plaster worse. We repair plaster properly: cracks opened and taped, delamination reattached, skim-coating where walls deserve a fresh start. See plaster repair.
Common Indian Head jobs
- Plaster crack repair — the number-one call in older Indian Head homes.
- Ceiling repair — stains, sagging sections, and cracked plaster ceilings replaced or repaired.
- New drywall in additions and renovated rooms, tied into existing walls with matched texture.
- Water damage repair — cut out, dried, rebuilt with the right board.
- Whole-house refreshes — skim-coating tired walls smooth. See what is skim coating.
Repair or replace? We tell you straight
Sound plaster is a better wall than new drywall — harder, quieter, worth keeping. We will tell you when your plaster is worth saving and when it is time to cover or replace it. Either way, you get both options priced before you decide.
Plaster town: what your walls are made of
Walk through Indian Head's older neighborhoods and knock on a wall: the dull, solid thunk is plaster, not drywall. Plaster over wood lath — sometimes metal lath in later work — troweled on in layers generations ago. It is harder than drywall, denser, quieter. It is also a better wall than anything you can buy today, which is why our default advice is to save it.
Saving it means repairing it correctly. Hairline cracks get opened slightly, filled, and taped with proper bedding — the tape bridges the seasonal movement that caused the crack. Hollow, bouncy spots mean the plaster has separated from the lath; we reattach it with adhesive and screws before finishing. Big holes get plaster base coats, not just drywall mud — mud alone over a large plaster repair shrinks and cracks.
When plaster is failing across whole walls — crumbling, widespread delamination — we say so honestly, and usually recommend hanging new drywall over it rather than demolition. You keep the mass and quiet of the old wall, gain a fresh smooth surface, and skip the mess of tearing out. Both paths get priced on the free visit.
What happens on your free estimate
- We look. We walk the rooms, see the walls in person, and check behind the problem — moisture, framing, the real story.
- We measure. Square footage, ceiling height, how much is repair versus new.
- We talk materials. Standard, moisture-resistant, or mold-resistant board — specified per room, not per habit.
- You get a number. One written price for the whole job. Take your time deciding; the price is yours to keep.
The visit takes 20 to 30 minutes for most repairs, longer for large installations. And it is free — no obligation, no sales script.

Our dust-control promise in Indian Head homes
Drywall sanding makes dust — there is no version of the job where it does not. What differs is what happens to that dust. We seal every work area with plastic sheeting, run dust control while sanding, and clean up at the end of every day — not just at the end of the job. Floors get runners and drop cloths on every path we walk. When we leave, your home should feel like a home that had work done, not a construction site you happen to sleep in.
